So, during the Orange Bowl, the commentators frequently commented on how Iowa shut down Georgia Tech's spread attack. Double Wing? Spread? Eh, sure... _________________ "What is best in life?

You heard it to? I wasn't imagining it. Commentators fail miserably these days. Some of them guys need a few courses in football 101. _________________ UCD Head Coach 2010

I think Iowa ran more spread than GT. I reckon any offence that isn't I or Pro now is considered a spread, even if it's 80 years old. Iowa's D was magnificent though, they weren't wrong there. _________________ "What is best in life?

I find commentators use the word spread far too often because they either don't want to have to explain the formation or just don't know what to call it when it isn't I or Pro
Iowa were definitely more spread than GT. Cracker of a game I have to say. Will be downloading that to add to my collection.
Lets hope the BCS game tonight is a cracker also. I have a feeling its going to be an anti climax. _________________ UCD Head Coach 2010

Dunno, been a lot of fine bowl games, although that's no indicator. GMAC bowl last night was fab too, nice to see LeFevour play, hope he makes it with the big boys.
Texas and Alabama are very similar, shutdown defences with "get the job done offences", the only difference is Bama run the bowl and Texas use a short passing attack. If the difference in the game is who has the lesser "weakness" - that is, Texas running game Vs Alabama passing - I'd go with 'bama. McElroy got better throughout the year and was awesome against Florida. WR Julio Jones will be a solid pro soon. McCoy is Texas best runner, but he's no Vince Young. The best thing about Texas' RBs is they have a guy called Foswhitt Whittaker. _________________ "What is best in life?

Alabama's line was superb run blocking, but crap at pass protecting. Texas D was excellent otherwise. I guess their game plan was to force the Tide to run. Unfortunately that was a bad idea. _________________ "What is best in life?
